Reverend Poncella Summers was born September 17, 1950 to the late George Ruth and the late Caretha Lang.
She attended Manatee County Schools and graduated from Lincoln Memorial High School in the Class of 1969. Poncella was called into the ministry and was ordained to preach on February 13, 1993. She loved preaching God’s word.
She was employed by Manatee County School Board in the Operations Department for over 20 years. Poncella loved shopping, fishing, and spending time with her children, especially all of her grandchildren.
Poncella is preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Cherish; and sister, Joanne Ruth.
Poncella is survived by her life partner, Harold Summers; three children: Donna Evans (Byron), Harold Summers, Jr, (Trese), and Yolanda Baker (David); seventeen grandchildren: Terania, Breyontae Carley, Abbrea Evans, Taqueria Smith, Daejazalin, Tishara, Brittany Rumph, Harold, III, Kayla, Anthony, Jamarion, Azariah, Maliyah, Darrian Hird, Nesha Taylor, Brandavia Baker, and Quantayvion Baker; twelve great grandchildren; sisters: Nancy Siplin, Robin Hammonds, Carol Hammonds, and Lynne Ruth; brothers: George Hammonds, and William Ruth; aunt, Mary Lang; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
