Betty A. Durant Cobbs departed this life on September 12, 2018 to be with the Lord. She was born March 9, 1947 to the late Ned Byrd and Effie Byrd.Betty was a domestic engineer. She worked at Holiday Inn Longboat Key for many years. She had a heart of “Gold” and would do anything to help, even if she couldn’t help them, she tried. Betty couldn’t keep a job for helping to raise her siblings. She even took some of sister’s children to make sure they were taken care of. She had a neighborhood store that she sold cupcakes, sodas and candy. Everyone in the neighborhood knew and loved her. She was the glue that held the family together, the Matriarch.
Betty accepted Christ and was converted in the last four years. She loved the Lord and worked faithfully in her church. Betty was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia Hird; two brothers: Willie Byrd, and James Byrd; two sisters: Joann Malcom, and Rose Elaine Moore.
Betty leaves to mourn and cherish the memories of her life a loving husband, Clifford Cobbs; son, Charles Jennings (Evelyn); daughters: Lisa Hird (Gregory), Cathy Byrd, and Bridgette Moore; sisters: Cassie Sams, and Cathy Byrd; brothers: Trinity “Victor” Dushon, and Otis Byrd; host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, favorite niece, Cassie Sams; sister in law, Sara Little; brother in law, Leroy Cobbs, and Dan Cobbs. Special friends: Gwen Shinholster, and Alberta Williams.
